Extreme Heat Warning continues Sunday for the northern Hill Country, Austin area and into the Coastal Plains.
Heat Advisory continues through Wednesday for portions of the Hill Country, I-35 Corridor, and Coastal Plains.
Area Forecast Discussions are the real forecasts, written 3 to 4 times daily by NWS meteorologists reading the models and interpreting what they mean for your area. They offer far deeper insight than any weather app, but they're written in dense meteorological shorthand. Plaincast uses Anthropic's Claude to summarize them into plain English, side by side with the annotated original.
Plaincast decodes the National Weather Service's Area Forecast Discussion — the real forecast, written 3 to 4 times a day by the meteorologist on shift — into plain English. The discussion is where a forecaster explains their reasoning: which models disagree, what they are watching, and how confident they are. Below is the current edition for San Antonio, with its shorthand expanded. The full experience — an AI plain-English summary beside the annotated original — loads with JavaScript, and every one of the 68 forecast offices has its own edition.

(Tonight through Monday night) Issued at 141 PM CDT Sun Aug 23 2026
The heat will continue to be the main focus through mid-week as temperatures remain above normal. A strong ridge of high pressure remains centered over the southern Rocky Mountains and this will be the main influencer of our weather pattern. The Extreme Heat Warning for the northern Hill Country, Austin area and southward into the Coastal plains will remain in effect until 7 PM CDT Sunday. A Heat Advisory also continues today for portions of the Hill Country, I-35 Corridor and Coastal plains. Highs are still on track to top out in the 103 to 107 degree range for areas under the Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory.
For Monday (through Wednesday), we will continue the current Heat Advisory for portions of the Hill Country, I-35 Corridor, and Coastal Plains. While a few spots may approach 105 degrees (mainly northern Hill Country to near Austin), confidence is not quite high enough to go with another Extreme Heat Warning at this time.
